Assaults and Rapes Are Often by Someone We Know

Assaults and even attempted or successful rapes generally occur by someone we know or have known.

Recently a Rape occurred right within my own city.  In the strip center I am very familiar with.  It wasn’t reported in the Arcadia Weekly, but I know about it first hand because of the individual who responded to the call.  Unfortunately it was a story that I’ve heard too often in my line of work.  It was a young female in her mid twenties who was attacked by not only a former boyfriend, but a former employee also….The fact that she is a survivor is a good thing!  The predator I call him that because that is the “role” he took on…when he made that choice to cross that line, was caught.

There is a reason I brought this particular attack up.  I’d like to let you know and have others know that when it’s somebody you’ve known or been with…it is hard to “hurt them”.  There still is that Caregiver roll that is going on.  There should be NO GUILT involved in feeling like this, you are of the majority.   Not only women but some men also are in or have been in the same situation experience this same caregiver feeling.

Now here comes my point.  If you are dating someone for a short span of time or for even a long span of time, you notice this person change before or during your break-up.  You will feel some gut instinct “Something is wrong”.  Trust that!  Then notify your local police.  Let them know this person changed and you have broken up.  They take things serious now so they will listen just do not abuse this. It will be on record then that you did call about this individual.

Finally, if they do come after you…step outside of yourself for a moment, remember this person is going to hurt you in whatever way they can.  So…Always “love yourself”.  Which means fight for your life.  Go for vital areas, eyes, groin, throat.  You have to be the one to cause severe pain!  Do whatever is necessary to get away! Do not muscle the individual.  You are objective is to STOP them, get away and call the Police.  If they come at you with a weapon…knife, gun, then you have a legal right to defend yourself and take them out completely if necessary.  If they do Not have a weapon, you have the legal right to stop them put them down, stomp their knee out, ankle…make it where they cannot come after you, but you cannot take their life or beat them to death.  Be smart…be safe…do your best to listen to your gut or instinct always.  It is like anything, it takes working out, practice, you have to build it practice and know that quiet voice.
